4th of July 2014

As with any holiday, I try to squeeze in as much fun as possible and 4th of July was no different. First Brent bought a couple $100's worth of fireworks that we shot off at the house before the 4th, we stopped by Sunnyfest to watch the fireworks show, Preston participated in his school 4th of July Parade, we had the family over to the house on the 4th for a traditional celebration of a cookout, swimming and fireworks in the yard and then rounded the holiday off at Vicki and Dave's by attending the Celina's 4th of July Festival.

Brent was soo excited to buy a few fireworks to shoot off at the house with Preston a couple days before the 4th. Little did we know how terrifying and ultimately fear creating it was going to be for Preston. Just at the sight of all the fireworks layed out on the dining room table proved to be too much for Preston. He didn't even want to come near it all which was surprising because he didn't really even know what all that stuff was. But I guess for some reason he didn't like it and he certainly didn't want to come near it all. We thought he might like it better once he saw all the bright colors and colorful smoke bombs but boy were we wrong.
 Not real happy :(
 Better now that is over

I really wanted to go to a fireworks show and despite Preston showing a little fear, I didn't think he would be that scared so we went to Sunnyfest and got there right before the fireworks show started. I was holding Preston and at the sound of the first boom, Preston completely lost it and pointed in the direction of the car. We moved away from the crowd so we didn't disturb everyone and hoping Preston would eventually see everything was ok but he didn't want anything to do with watching the show so we got in the car and he calmed down a little so we watched the show from inside the car. I was holding Preston and when I looked down at him, he was covering his eyes tightly with both hands. It was the cutest thing ever although I did feel bad that he was soo scared and we were still there watching. I grabbed for his blanket in hopes that would help him feel better and he instantly took it and covered his entire face with it. Poor guy.

At school Preston participated in the 4th of July Parade and he did soo good parading around with his classmates shaking his paper-plate shaker!!

The 4th fell on a Friday this year and it gave us the perfect opportunity to throw a very traditional 4th of July celebration. Mom, Dad, Bub, Michelle and Jerod all came over and we grilled hamburgers and hotdogs, played in the pool, ate red, white and blue popsicles and did a little riding on the 4-wheeler. That evening, Mom kept Preston inside while the rest of us shot off the bigger fireworks Brent bought. We weren't quite sure if the neighbors would get upset about the fireworks but once it started to get dark and we saw all the other neighbors doing it, we knew we were all good. We kept the BIG ones for last and had soo much fun. We of course were nervous about catching the trees on fire but it all worked out and we got to enjoy a cool fireworks show right in our own backyard!!
After shooting off the fireworks we came inside to enjoy the pizza Mom and Dad bought and realized Preston was terrified the entire time. Mom said he didn't want to move from the couch and he never got off her lap. She tried taking him to his room to play but when he heard some of the booms, he bolted back down the stairs and got right back on the couch. From that night on, Preston has not slept in his bed or room because he is soo fearful of the "booms out there".

We completed the 4th of July holiday by spending the next day with Vicki and Dave and attending the 4th of July Festival in Celina. Vicki cooked an early dinner for everyone and Dave taught Preston how to roll down the grassy hill. We played in the pool and as the night approached, we drove to downtown Celina for the festival. Preston, me and Grandma rode the train, Grandma and Preston danced to the live music and we all kept our fingers crossed that Preston would maybe enjoy the fireworks this time. But all hope was lost after the first boom when Preston lost it again and started saying "car" "car". So we all grabbed our chairs and headed to the car. We gave it our best shot and maybe next year Preston won't be as scared!!
We ended up spending the night and played in the pool all the next day. Preston loved that
Happy 4th of July!!
