Preston had his first T-Ball practice at the Y in Rockwall at just 4.5 years old and he did soo good. We think he is placed on a team with other 4 and 5 year olds that have never played just like him because at the practice all the boys seems a little clueless...lol. But that made it all that more fun watching them discover something new for the first time.
Their coach had them first learn that there is a 1st, 2nd and 3rd base and asked all the boys to run the bases. As the boys ran to first, they all just kept on running straight with no clue where 2nd base was, it was so cute and it was funny to see all the parent react.
After mastering the bases, the coach had them pick a partner and all they tossed the ball to each other. Preston did really well at this and his accuracy was really good, we'll have to work on his catching.
Next, the Coach had the team break into 3 stations...1 station was batting, 1 station was catching ground balls and 1 station was catching fly balls and learning.
Preston started out in the catching ground balls and he was the only one in his group that picked up on what you were suppose to be doing and his throw back of the ball to his coach was always pretty accurate.
Then he went to the catching fly balls station and he learned he needed to squeeze his glove to catch it. We were so proud of him when he finally caught one.
Lastly, Preston went to the batting station, his favorite of course and he did really well here too. It was so cute to see him in his new helmet!
The last part of the practice was the Coach spaced everyone in the outfield and threw the ball to all of them at some point and their task was to throw the ball to the first baseman. This was a hard concept to get for most of them but in their defense I don't think it was explained very well to them what was expected.
Preston was tired by the end of practice but he said he had fun and wanted to do it again. Brent was one proud Papa Bear!
